About Open Minds
The mission: An open discussion of mental health challenges, without stigma. Let’s start with a song.
We hope to start open discussion of the emotions, thoughts and impact of mental health challenges. The media is full of extremes – crazy funny, crazy scary or celebrities misbehaving. We don’t see those who manage, who work to seem ‘normal,’ and the struggles they face when plans and pills fail. There isn’t much upside in coming out but until we do, stigma and misunderstanding will remain.
Open Minds is a 10-movement choral piece that gives voice to people with mental health challenges and the people who love and care about them. See Me is of that piece. Here are minds laid bare, in the hopes of opening the minds of others.
Open Minds 10/10
We are asking choirs to sing See Me on or around October 10th, 2019 — International Mental Health Day. We hope participating in OM1010 will provide your choir and school a way to start conversations around very difficult situations, without stigma.
The music is free to participating choirs.
If I decide to share some dark stories of my past, it’s terrifying. It’s so vulnerable. But this project has changed my life. This means so much to me.”
Thank you for spreading this important message and awareness. Each piece is so raw, real, and such a wonderful work of art. I applaud you all for taking a risk and singing out.”
The process of learning and performing Open Minds……I don’t think words could properly describe the impact it had on any of us. This work came into my life at just the right time and for that, thank you”
